Fiber Identifiers
An optical fiber identifier is a piece of test equipment designed to prevent the very unfortunate situation which occurs when a technician removes a fiber optic connector which is live and transmitting signal. This unit works by allowing a technician to clip onto the fiber assembly’s jacket and look for traffic signals which would be present if the fiber was in active use. This very simple process is an extremely valuable insurance when you consider the cost of losing signal on a highly trafficked circuit. (Fines can be in the hundreds of thousands to millions depending on how long the circuit may be inoperable.
